I.Introduction to Katakana
As we learned in Lesson 1, hiragana and katakana are both derived from kanji. While hiragana are rounded with curved lines, katakana are more angular, having straight lines and sharp corners.

Katakana are mainly used to write foreign loan words, place names and personal names, as well as and onomatopoeia (words that represent sounds). In this lesson, we will learn how to read and write katakana characters.
